You would think that if you had all of your siblings die from not following the rules and being careless that you would learn from that, and learn NOT to do said things. But then of course, Helena isn’t exactly that smart, or if she is, then she doesn’t use it at all. No, someone smart would be a good little girl and go out of her way to not get into trouble, but Helena couldn’t help but want to do the things that could get her in trouble, the temptation was just too much, and she wasn’t very good at resisting it. Not at all. Idiot. If she kept going about this way, she would get herself killed also.
It was one of those Friday nights where you had nothing to do, at least for Helena it was, and she just didn’t want to stay in her room doing nothing all night. She wanted to go exploring a bit, it wasn’t that she had never explored the Academy before; she had just not gone very close to the places where you weren’t allowed to go. And she had an urge to go to the basement, she had always liked being in the basement at home, it might be dingy or smelly or creepy, but it was always interesting. Anyways, she didn’t think that anything could be worse than having to see her brother’s dead body at the end of last year, and anyways, they wouldn’t drag her into the games for going into the basement once, right? Well, she hoped not, but all she could do is hope.
Sneaking out of her room, wearing her black bondage pants and black My Chem hoodie like normal, she tiptoed her way throughout the building. Most people were either out partying or sleeping right now, so she figured that no one would see her right now if she went. It took her almost a half hour to actually find the basement though, because she had never been there before, and she had only gotten the idea to go to the basement around two hours ago, so she hadn’t had time to find out where it was before hand. When she finally reached it she had to stop herself from yelling out in joy, because she was about to just give up.
Opening up the door, Helena slowly started walking down the stairs, hearing them creak as she went down. She didn’t know if there was a light switch or not, because she had forgotten to look for one, but it was pitch black, and she also didn’t have a flashlight. Oh, smart idea! Not. When she reached the bottom of the stairs, she stopped for a little, trying to let her eyes adjust to the darkness.

everything i held just hit the wall... what used to be yours isn't yours at all.... outfit She’d spent most of that day wandering around to places she wasn’t supposed to be, so it wasn’t unusual for Cassadee to have found herself in the basement shortly after dinner was served. She’d been there many times and came there when she just needed a minute to think. Today, she’d been more hesitant than usual to feed from a human. She always hated the idea, but she wasn’t sure she could live any other way. Hunger was something she had never been able to control, and she’d come to the basement more to get away from all of the humans around her than anything else. Unfortunately, she didn’t seem to be the only one wandering around the Academy tonight. As she sat, hugging her knees, in the shadows of the corner, Cass heard the stairs creek. The warm, sweet scent of blood wafted through the room and her fangs slid down against her will. She hadn’t thought to turn the light on before. She didn’t need it, really. She wished whoever this was had thought to turn it on, though. It was harder than it should have been to sit there with the human stepping closer to her. She let out a soft growl, more fighting with herself than posing a threat to the human. Maybe she would hear the sound and leave? Cassadee had to hope. All at once, she remembered that there was a light switch in the bottom of the basement, too. More quickly than any human would have been able, she ran to the switch, flicking it up and watching light flood the room. Her eyes danced around, looking for the one the scent was coming from. Her fingertips played with the lace on her skirt and her sharp fangs pierced her lower lip as they fell against it. “You really shouldn’t sneak up on people like that,” she said softly. The sound would carry. She knew it would. For a moment, she realized she sounded menacing. It was never something she would have intended. In her human life, Cassadee might have been dramatic, but she wasn’t the menacing sort. Her moods just didn’t seem quite so easy to control now that she’d changed, though. It was like puberty in so many awful ways. Maybe the sour mood she’d swung so easily into would intimidate the girl, though. It really would be better if it turned out that way. Cassadee wasn’t sure how long she could stand to be around this girl without pouncing on her.

Normally, being in the dark didn’t freak Helena out too much; she actually quite liked it. she didn’t have any problems with it either, well, not until she heard a growl. That didn’t make her feel too well. Starting to get a bit nervous, her thoughts began to race. What could that have been? Was it an animal? A student? You never know here, it could be both. Or it could be neither. Helena glanced around; trying to find where the noise had come from, but it was useless. Without any light she couldn’t tell, and she wouldn’t be able to until she found a source of light.
Almost as soon as the thought of finding a light came to her, a light was turned on. Helena jumped. Who turned that on? She wasn’t exactly sure if she wanted to know, but at least it was a light, it could’ve been worse if it was still all dark. She looked to one side to see if the growl had come from there, but she didn’t see anything but boxes and who knows what else. Hearing a voice, Helena turned. She was looking in the complete opposite direction, figures. “Well, if a light had been on earlier than it wouldn’t have been sneaking up.” she told the girl, somewhat glad that it was a student. Okay, maybe not all that glad, you couldn’t really trust the students. “You should take your own advice you know.” she added, remembering how the light had freaked her own. That could be considered sneak up, right? Well in her book it was.
It took her a few seconds to actually start taking a few steps towards the girl. She looked like a vampire, from what Helena could tell. She didn’t always feel the safest around vampires, but hey, company was company, and as long as the company didn’t try and kill her, she was fine. The girl wouldn’t try and kill her, right? Okay, maybe Helena was getting a bit paranoid. Taking a deep breath, Helena forced a smile at the girl. That was all she really felt like doing now, she didn’t normally willingly hug vampires unless she was in a crowded area. Which was not here.
Glancing around the basement yet again, Helena took a good look at the girl. Her hair was pretty cool, but that was about all she could think besides ‘vampire’ right now. “So, what brings you down into forbidden territory tonight?” she asked, trying her best to start an un-awkward conversation. She wasn’t exactly sure if she wanted to know the answer though, it might scare her.

everything i held just hit the wall... what used to be yours isn't yours at all.... outfit Ordinarily, the girl would have offered to shake her new companion’s hand. She just wasn’t sure she could trust herself to be that close to the human at this point, though. Instead, she offered the girl a slight nod. “Right. I guess I forgot that other people might need the light.” It was the truth, really. Cass was so used to being able to see regardless of the light that she did tend to forget not everyone could see in the dark. Holding the breath that she knew she didn’t need to breathe, Cass watched as the girl stepped closer to her. Instantly, she was annoyed that her new companion was taller than her. Was she the shortest person in the world or what? Shaking her head to rid herself of the thought, she offered a halfhearted smile to the girl. “I’m Cassadee. But you can call me Cass.” She could have mentioned that she wasn’t going to kill the girl, but she couldn’t quite convince herself to say it. She hadn’t just eaten, but she wasn’t hungry enough to attack without warning. Her lips were screwed tightly shut and she was humming a rather random tune to herself, trying hard to calm herself down. She was probably making the other girl more uncomfortable than she ought to, but she couldn’t quite help it at the moment. Conversation was something she could always count on to get her mind off of the present. She grinned when the girl asked what had brought her here. “Sometimes… Sometimes I just want to get away from everyone else. You know, all the… creatures… and the humans. I don’t want to hurt people, you know… I just… It’s… Well… you don’t feel bad for eating a burger or a steak, right? And it’s… I know it sounds awful, but it’s just… kind of the same for me, ya know?” For all Cass knew, this girl could be a vegetarian and have no idea what she was talking about. She only hoped it made sense. It wasn’t even an accurate explanation. She did feel bad for hurting people. At least she hadn’t killed one yet.

She wasn’t sure if she found the girls words comforting or not. She didn’t know vampires too well, and to her, people forgetting about others needing light might mean that they could easily forget what else humans need, like air and food and not feeling like they are going to be food. Helena forced a small laugh, “Seems like it.” she nodded, trying her best to be friendly. Though she wasn’t sure if she should be friendly with her or not, she could drain her blood at any second, and she didn’t know how she stood on that topic just yet. she could be hungry for all she knows.
This time the smile wasn’t forced, not completely at least. “Hi Cass. I’m Helena. Most people come up with their own nicknames for me if they give me any.” she told her, not taking another step closer. Normally she would have, but also she normally would have attacked the girl with a hug by now, but this wasn’t normally. Her gaze never left the girl, afraid that if it did, she might miss something important. Noticing that the girl’s lips were clasped shut, as if she were trying to keep her mouth shut on purpose and try hard not to open it, and that she was humming to herself, Helena tensed up. This was definitely awkward so far.
Helena listened as the girl spoke, what she said made sense. She wasn’t sure if she liked it, but it did make sense. It put vampires in a different perspective for her, though it made her feel slightly uncomfortable thinking of humans as steak or a burger. Helena nodded, “It makes sense. You shouldn’t feel bad about it, it’s a way to survive, just like I eat meat, you drink blood. I wouldn’t blame you for not feeling bad. Just as long as that blood isn’t mine, okay?” she explained, chuckling softly at the end, even though she was 100% serious.

everything i held just hit the wall... what used to be yours isn't yours at all.... outfit Awkward as she’d felt to begin with, Cassadee was quickly finding that she was once again in control of her hunger. She went to school with these people. She had to control it every now and then. She found that once she was used to the scent of whichever persons happened to be closest to her, she was pretty good at making herself behave. Her fangs retracted and she was able to offer a mostly normal looking grin to the girl. “I think I’ll just stick to Helena. It’s a pretty name.” Every now and then, Cassadee was a sarcastic, brash, and downright annoying person. Today, though, she was feeling rather tolerable. A giggle tore from her lips as Helena insisted that she was alright with the whole drinking blood thing as long as she wasn’t drinking her blood. She could certainly understand that. If the situation was reversed, Cass would have felt the same way. “Don’t worry, kid. You smell like you’re O positive. No offense, but that blood type kind of tastes like licking an ash tray.” Cassadee was grinning. No blood type actually tasted that bad, but she was a fan of A negative. She figured it was sort of like the way humans had their own favorite foods. As a human, she’d liked chicken better than most other kinds of meat. It was sort of the same thing, wasn’t it? Bored of standing around in the basement, she turned away from the girl, pushing around a few boxes until she found the one she was looking for. She had a bit of a stash down here and she figured Helena would enjoy it more than she would. Tearing the top off the small box, she pulled out a handful of hershey’s kisses. She offered them to the human, though she didn’t expect her to take them. After all, Cass was kind of a predator and Helena just might be the prey.

Being in a basement with a vampire and no one else wasn’t exactly the most appealing thing to Helena. It was awkward, and a little frightening (not that she wanted to let that show, but unfortunately for her, she kinda was). Though she was starting to feel a little bit better about this, but the thought that maybe she should have just stayed in her room never left her mind completely. “Thanks. I’ve always preferred my sibling’s names, because I got the most normal of them all.” she told her, offering a small smile. Okay, so maybe this wouldn’t be as bad as she originally thought.
Awkwardness swept over her again as Cass laughed. Was that a good or bad thing? Helena wasn’t really sure, and she wasn’t sure if she wanted to know either, so she would just stick with not wanting to know. “Thanks. I guess.” she said after hearing her speak again. Well, that was a good sign right? It made her feel better at least. “I’ll take your word for it. I don’t know my blood type and I don’t know what they taste like. I don’t really want to know either.” she added, deciding that if Cass thought that her blood type tasted gross, she wouldn’t try and disagree. “Now, can every vampire dislike that blood type? Is that possible?” she asked, knowing that it probably wasn’t, but it was worth a shot.
Helena watched as she moved boxes, half wondering what the hell she was doing. Then seeing her open a small box and offer her some candy, Helena was hesitant to grab it. On one hand, she loved chocolate, but on the other, a strange person who just happened to be a vampire was offering her candy. Biting her lip, Helena debated for a few seconds, before grabbing the candy. She didn’t eat it though, she just held it. it could be poisoned, you never knew. She just hoped it wasn’t.

everything i held just hit the wall... what used to be yours isn't yours at all.... outfit Cassadee couldn't help but laugh at the girl's question. Is it possible for every human to hate spinach? she countered, knowing full well that it wasn't. After all, as a human, she'd liked the vegetable. Every vampire had their own personal tastes, and every blood type tasted different. They were a lot like humans in that aspect. She arched her eyebrow at the girl when she took the chocolate. It wasn't poisoned. Cassadee just couldn't exactly enjoy it very much anymore. She figured the whole chocolate releasing hormones in your brain thing was strictly a human experience. It's not poisoned, you know. If I wanted you dead, I have better means that candy. She rolled her eyes, taking a piece for herself even though she wouldn't like the taste of it. At least if she was eating one, Helena would see that it was safe. She unwrapped it slowly and put the candy in her mouth, wrinkling her nose at the flavor. See? Safe. Horrible as far as I'm concerned. But safe. She was trying to be friendly. Really, she was. With a sigh, the girl took a seat on one of the boxes, tucking her feet up under her. She positively despised being a vampire. It made people mistrust her on sight. Really, she was exactly the same person she'd been before she was turned. She just had to feed herself differently. When she'd been human, she was sure Helena wouldn't have thought twice about taking the candy the girl offered her. She also wouldn't be nearly as uncomfortable as she was about being here with her. I'm really not out to get you, she said softly. And even if I was, I've never killed a person. That was true, even if she knew the girl probably wouldn't believe her.

Helena sighed, she hated spinach, and she didn’t really understand how some people actually liked it, but for some strange reason not everyone hated the same foods. She had guessed that that would be true for vampires also, but she could hope right? “I guess not, but you would think that we all would, because spinach is gross.” she replied, her nose scrunching up as she spoke.
She hadn’t really thought that it was poisoned, but it was always better to be safe around here, even though the girl did have a good excuse. She was a vampire and she could have easily of killed her by now. Helena watched as she ate a piece of candy herself, okay, so maybe it was completely safe. “How anyone, vampire or not, can consider chocolate to be disgusting is beyond me.” she muttered, unwrapping her own piece of candy now, slowly placing it in her mouth. It was chocolate and she loved chocolate, so she was going to eat it. The girl seemed nice so far anyway.
Helena raised an eyebrow at the girl, she really didn’t have any reason to not believe her, but she didn’t have a reason to believe her either. But the girl had been nice so far, so she might as well believe her, if she said that she hadn’t killed a person before she might as well believe her. “How does a vampire manage to never kill a person before?” she asked, not moving from her spot. “Sorry if that’s kind of rude, but really, most vampires at least accidentally kill someone once, not that I’m an expert of the subject at all though.” she added, speaking much faster this time. She had been doing better about talking slow enough for people to understand her lately, but it didn’t always work, like now.
